If Britain abstains....

This will not happen; Britons agree on one thing; they are very proud of their armed forces and no British military force has ever left the side of an ally just as hostilities were set to begin..they will be there out of duty. I see many parallels between the US and Gibbons' Decline and Fall. Like Rome, the US must become even more militaristic to sustain its vast foreign interests and responsibilities. Iraq will just add to these. The fiscal health of the US, like its currency, has embarked on a long period of decline, and it will be an increasingly impoverished US in the future that will see its global influence wane. The widening gap between the US and Europe (incl Russia) testifies to this already beginning. China is set to be the next superpower within 20 years....if the US stays on its present course. Mr. Bush would be well advised to read Gibbon.
