FPalardy, In all of your recent posts, you have made valid points. However you have assumed that Intel is unaware of these issues and is standing still. I am sure that if the market moves to the low end (sub $500) appliances in any significant way, you can bet that Intel will be there, in some form (pls don't comment on margins etc.. as they are irrelevant to this point). Do you think that Windows CE was initially developed for a non x86 processor?
Witness the NetPC initiative, and the X86 now recognized by Larry Ellison of Oracle as the best processor for Java/NC/NetPC.
As for Evolution not moving in a straight line, As long as Intel moves in line with evolution (The workstation division within Intel), things will be fine.
The issue arises, if Intel is out of step with reality.
As for the PC becoming an entertainment device, Sometimes the future needs to be made. There is a consensus among the dreamers, that in the digital age, PC and TV's will converge, whatever form that takes.

P.S Good contrary arguments. Would like to hear more. |
