In 1991, our purpose, as stated by then President Bush, was to protect the markets in the West from loss of Kuwaiti oil, and possibily Saudi oil as well, if the Iraqis kept on moving south. Ownership of Kuwaiti oil was not a factor, but availability of that oil for western markets was the MAIN reason for going into to Kuwait.
