(VSR) - VERSAR Awarded Contract to Support Chemical Material Destruction Program

SPRINGFIELD, Va., Mar 12, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- VERSAR, INC. (VSR) today announced that its subsidiary, GEOMET Technologies, LLC., as a member of the Teledyne Brown Engineering Team, has been awarded a contract to support the U.S. Army Product Manager for Non-Stockpile Chemical Material (PMNSCM). The Non-Stockpile Systems Contract II (NSSC II) is a 5-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity delivery order type contract with a ceiling value of $300 million.

The first delivery order awarded to the Teledyne Team under the new NSSC II effort is for the management and operations of the Rapid Response System (RRS), a transportable system designed for the safe on-site processing of chemical agent training sets. The Teledyne Team tested and operated the RRS under a previous contract and is now tasked with developing and incorporating system upgrades to enhance the RRS operational capabilities. Following system upgrades, the Teledyne Team will deploy the RRS at various locations.

GEOMET's primary roles as a member of the Teledyne Team are to provide programmatic support and expertise in laboratory and air monitoring operations related to chemical warfare material. This includes the operation of a portable laboratory used to support the RRS operations. Other areas and responsibilities include technical assistance for the selection and evaluation of personnel protective equipment, health and safety support, environmental compliance and permitting, and architectural and engineering support required for site preparation and closure activities.

Dr. Ted Prociv, President and CEO of Versar, said, "As the former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army responsible for Chemical Demilitarization, I know the challenges associated with handling the chemical warfare material. We are proud to be a member of the Teledyne Team and look forward to supporting the mission of PMNSCM. Protecting the environment and all Americans from chemical warfare material is the goal of our Homeland Defense pillar."
