The biggest exporters of Iraqi oil are American companies. The others are minor players.

Actually, NO US COMPANY exports oil from Iraq. The oil is exported by IRAQ, sold to middle men by Baghdad, who generally then sell it to US refineries.

Thus, US refineries IMPORT oil from intermediaries acting under UN supervision..

And even then, only recently has that oil accounted for a mere 13% of total US oil imports (not total consumption).

This is in direct contrast to the BILLIONS in trade Russia and France conduct with Saddam (who uses the profits from those oil for food sales to the US to purchase goods)..

And as my next post will show, you can see where companies like TotalFina are betting the farm on being able to block any US ouster of Saddam.
