You've fundamentally acknowledged that you're asking a question that you won't believe the answer to if it were answered.

Try again.

I don't understand that link as a relevant response. You have said that if the person were an agent, you would expect him to lie. You're expectation then is that the only answer you would get would be a denial. If you expect only one answer, i.e., a denial, then why ask?

It wasn't? This was a time when the USSR had "somehow" gotten the Bomb.

No, it wasn't. Unless you've got your head stuck in the sand, espionage has been going on for a rather long time. I can take easily take it back to Judas, Caesar, that should be far enough.

Had he had that evidence, the number would have been much better.

One of those "technicalities", evidence. You're getting close to the issue. He had no evidence. There's something about probable cause, evidence, grand juries...those little details.

The bomb....I hate to tell you this, but the Soviets got some of those German physicists as well. They also got some of those German missile designers. The US had more money to put in, the Soviets got some intel...what's new? They have spies, we have spies...it seems like at that time in history, their spies were better than our spies.
