The irony here is that Saddam is probably spare-changing his way to any nation that has WDM so that he can borrow them to turn them in and avert war. Before the RWE's take me seriously, let me cut you off here by saying: I'm just kidding! But this is a measure as to how absurd this has gotten.
When I heard a news report two days ago on MSNBC and it went something like this, by the respondee:
>>>[paraphrased] The 101st Airborne will be sent in with a twofold mission: a) shore up the oil wells so Saddam can't torch 'em; and, b) to have the 101st go to the areas where the weapons of mass destruction are and capture and safeguard those sites.<<<
I have two problems with the above reporting.
First, the original plan was for the 101st to come in through Turkey and shore up the northern oil wells. Recently I heard a report that the 101st is in Kuwait but some of its equipment is still at sea. Does this mean its equipment is off the coast of Turkey while the soldiers themselves are in Kuwait? Hey, what a way to utilize our nation's best fighting force--put 'em in without their equipment!
It's no wonder 900 generals, admirals, colnels, commanders majors, etc. signed on to an email opposing this war. [NOTE: The American media is slow, but I'm sure you'll be hearing more about this in coming days.]
Secondly, if the 101st is gonna go in and capture the sites where the weapons of mass destruction are held, why can't the UN weapons inspectors go to the same assigned location and spare us the war? |
