do contract workers get paid overtime?

not only is cash vs. stock options more expensive for companies... but options-compensated employees in most tech companies sign wavers saying they will not get OT pay. employees would gladly work, 70, 80, 90 hours a week. all for "the team," and the big IPO payday.

from what i hear, workers are starting to cut back on their hours to try to have more balanced lives. they're still working more than full time, but not double-shifts anymore. anyway, i wonder if companies have to pay contract employees overtime, or if they have to hire more workers to get the job done (or pull back overly-aggressive product schedules and workloads).
