Yes, the use of options certainly helped the techs. My sweetie's company will never be able to ipo. We have founder options as do quite a number of other early birds, but people are not jumping ship. In fact they are able to hire and they are not increasing pay. Doctor's salaries have come down in a BIG way and there were docs that left the profession and probably we lost some good prospects to other professions as a result (and we got foreign docs who are willing to work for less). Despite the lower compensation and longer hours, we still get more med school apps than they can accomodate. I agree that you may be in a pickle up there with your property values that high. If push comes to shove, companies may move to cities with lower biz costs (which is what my sweetie's company ended up doing) and that has happened here with biz moving from LA to OC to Riverside to San Bernadino, etc. As workers moved outword, new companies moved in, older areas sweetened biz fees to woo them back. We might be able to farm out production, but software programming? Maybe. Who knows? You might see Silicon Valley move down here... LOL! And should that unlikely scenario happen, you can tell your relatives.......... We did NOT steal your water!!!! TA
