Sounds like they've done the math as have so many here and come to the same conclusion: MSFT is now the proxy for the entire tech sector. Time for some more worried noises from Redmond? Or perhaps they've bought enough to tide them over until those "soft" Q1 numbers?

On the other hand, given that as part of yesterday's announced budget deal the U.S. is committed to "wiring every library and classroom to the internet by 2000" does anyone think the MSFT profit machine isn't going to fully participate in this growth? Sounds to me like we're setting up for a "Back to School" stampede on those new sub-$1K boxes from CPQ and others as well. Maybe Q1 won't be as "soft" as MSFT had hoped? Ah well, time to pad out those "deferred earnings" some more.
