You got that right on the damage to human emotions from the bubble. As far as the next Presidency, I too believe that Bush is gone after this term regardless of what happens in Iraq.

I'm a pretty conservative Republican on most days, but watching this administration completely bungle international diplomacy and forget about the subtlety needed to gain consensus has pretty much disgusted me. Bush and his cronies have taken a no-brainer issue like Saddam and made it look like we are the bad guys. Not only that, but we have gone from being the most influential country to the most hated in the span of two years. I just can't believe it. Meanwhile, the real bad guys, like Iraq are getting away with murder, literally. In addition, France, Russia, and China, by far the countries with the most investment in Iraq and the most to money lose, are looking like saints as pure as the driven snow. In contrast, the world, including millions of idiotic Americans are saying "No to war, no to blood for oil," when the U.S. has almost no investment in Iraq other than wanting to see stability in the Middle East and a leader who doesn't threaten his neighbors on a daily basis. What a backwards, moronic world we live in.

Anyway, I hate to say this, but Clinton was one hell of a salesman. His antics with Monica disgusted me too and made a mockery of the White House, but at least he knew how to sell an icecube to an eskimo. I wish there was a leader out there who had Bush's moral certitude, but Clinton's diplomatic finesse. Then we'd finally have a great president. Bush really needs to control Rumsfeld too. Rumsfeld is a top-notch SecDef, but a piss-poor diplomat. He should keep his mouth shut, even though I smile every time he makes a public statement.

I don't know who I'm going to vote for in 2004, but it's not going to be Bush. I think 2004 may mark the first time I don't vote Republican. I liked Steve Forbes last time around. On the Democratic side, I like Joe Lieberman, but that's likely to further inflame the fanatical Muslims who believe in conspiracy theories, given that Joe is Jewish. I also like Powell, but I doubt he'd run and I don't think he's savvy enough on domestic affairs. Most of all, I will vote for someone who is going to focus his or her attention on domestic issues like the economy first and dealing with rogue dictators second. Better yet, let France and Germany deal with the rogue dictators. They seem to think they know what's best for the world. So let's let them take the heat from the world's madmen for a change.

The more I watch our bungling in international affairs the more it makes me think we should pull our troops out of France, Germany, all of the Middle East, South Korea, and all of Asia. Cut off all aid to every country including Israel. Go isolationist and spend a decade or two fixing the problems we have right here in the U.S., including Healthcare, Social Security, poverty, the educational crisis, building a hydrogen based economy, and the host of other problems that are long term and expensive right here within the U.S. The world's radicalism with respect to the U.S. and the world's constant begging hand stretched out for American giveaways is turning me into a radical isolationist.

OK. I've vented.
