Well James, I guess you're not American, are you??
Because I believe what our constitution believes. And since the UN was FOUNDED by the US (as was the League of Nations) and its charter based upon the ideals advanced in both the US DOI and Constitution, I think it's relevant as to what the American perspective is... We certainly didn't found it based upon the Communist Manifesto, or Baathist ideology, that's for sure.
But as far as I'm concerned (and many others out there), like Bill Cosby ranted in admonishing one of his sons, "I brought you into this world, I can take you out... Only take 9 months to make another one just like you".. And the same can be said for that organization, which depends upon 25% of the funding from the US alone.
Is that a heavy handed attitude? To be sure.. But when the UN starts electing states like Libya to chair their human rights commission, or to permit states such as Iran or Iraq to chair the disarmament committee, or, in a secret vote, to kick out the US from the human rights commission (albeit readmitted 12 months later), it's growing apparent that the "inmates are taking over the asylum":

So while I can only vouch as to what forms the basis of my ideas and opinions in historical documents and moral intent, I would like to see what opposing opinions are basing THEIR beliefs on..
