PT, How many wars have been sanctioned by the UN? It is not a good body for major conflict resolution. It is much better at dealing with social global issues.

The combined GDP of France, Germany & Russia = 3.5T.
The combined GDP of US, UK, ITALY(leaving out Spain)= 12.7T.

This new world order you mention is quite preposterous. I have no problem with the French opposing US policy toward Iraq. Overall, they are a good friend & I agree with almost all of your points there. But Europe is shrinking. European GDP is growing at half the rate of the US. Also, all the big countries in Europe have fertility rates below 2(shrinking populations). US is 2.2 Like it or not, The US dictates the global economy.

The $ is weak now as is part of the normal cycle. Much of the Euro strength is coming from the booming eastern Europe as US capital is puring in. Longterm, this benefits US. These countries are more reliant on the US economy than Europe. I am fearful of the deficits we are creating(like you) but the signs are not yet there of waning US power.
