E-Mail from Kinross Management - Gord McCreary

My sincere apologies for not responding to your e-mail sooner! The
compounding of our problems at Macassa and the falling gold price resulted
in Kinross share price falling to a low of Cdn$4.65 about two weeks ago. At
that time Kinross was finally in a position to issue a press release with
some positive news that arested the decline in our share price. Since then,
with a little help from improve gold prices, Kinross share price has risen
to Cdn$6.50. Regarding your question about acquistions, Kinross has about
US$190 million in cash and is actively pursuing acquistion opportunities
that have arisen as a result of the depressed gold price. Except for our
increased interest in Goldbanks announced earlier this year, Kinross has not
concluded an acquisition in 1997 but the year is not over yet so please stay
tuned. Regards, Gord McCreary
