I am not trying to assign guilt, I am trying to assess risk. I don't care whether "realpolitik" rules or not, I care whether Saddam is likely to employ terrorists to achieve his aims. I do not much care what the world "sees" at this moment, when it is imperative to settle the matter once and for all, and we would not have wrenched such concessions as have been made from Saddam without our military build- up. We cannot drag this out indefinitely, and there are logistical reasons, like the heat of summer, to go now.
Let the terrorists fear us for a change, instead of counting us decadent and assuming that we will go to pieces over an attack. If they have more recruits, fine, let them find money and training grounds: by the time we are through, they will be lucky if they can support a guerrilla force with a bunch of AK- 47s. If and when they can make WMDs in the kitchen, we shall have to see what to do. One thing at a time..... |
