Samsung Develops Universally-Adaptable DVD Player

[ Back to the News | Back HOME ]
Korea Economic Daily via Individual Inc. -- Samsung Electronics
said that it has developed a "worldwide-type" digital video disk
(DVD) player which can work on any broadcasting system.

The latest DVD player of Samsung Electronics is the second of its
kind in the world industry after the one created by Panasonic of
Japan, which is operational on both NTSC (National Television
System Committee) and PAL (Phase Alternation Line) television
broadcasting systems.

The digital video machine uses a new video-decoder chip which
Samsung Electronics devised to give it a world-wide application,
Samsung said.

The company integrated the capabilities of a set of four decoder
chips for conventional DVD players onto a single chip, the
company said.

A built-in AC-3 decoder chip will let its users enjoy the sound
quality of a movie theater, the company said.
