They see no connection between the past and the present. Events happen independent of one another. The US "covered" for Iraq when they gassed the Kurds. It was the US position that Iran was responsible...until Iraq invaded Kuwait, then the Bush Administration had a revelation.

Most recently we've used the human rights play in Afghanistan. We listed all the horrid things the Taliban did to its own people. Ok. Now what's different. Well, the UN Commission on Human Rights reports that it's no different now then it was under the Taliban and it's probably somewhat worse in the rural areas and in those areas under US control. I haven't seen any objections from the US. Anyone seen any?

And they say the US is "arbitrary".
