Searle, back page of Milwaukee Journal's Thursday business section is headlined: "Tapping landfill's energy-saving potential." According to the article, 340 companies nationwide have bought into technology allowing them to reclaim clean methane energy from existing landfills. The technology is also being upgraded to allowed recycling of lost factory steam. Many other leaders of big industry are looking closely at the idea.

One company using a combination of the two is expected to spend $200,000 to $300,000 a year to purchase the gas from the landfill and another 5 million to set up all nececarry facilities. Savings per year are expected to be 2.4 million. Nice innovation. S.C. Johnson says expects to save 50% a year on natural gas costs. Years ago environmentalists whined and whined about landfills. We seem to accidentally have created tappable power fields for local industry.
