Saddam makes it difficult for himself... the first sign of surrender. Is internal revolt in the offing!! The command appointments suggest so!
<It appoints Saddam's eldest son Qusay, supervisor of the elite Revolutionary Guards, in charge of Baghdad and some other central areas. "The Revolutionary Command Council (RCC) issued a decree today that forms four regional leaderships under President Saddam Hussein to take the necessary steps to repulse and destroy any foreign aggression...and securing the domestic front," the state Iraqi News Agency (INA) said.
The decree, numbered 61 and signed by Saddam, divides Iraq into four districts: northern Iraq, southern Iraq, central Iraq, and Baghdad and other areas to the north including Tikrit.
The other leaders of the regions are: RCC's Deputy Chairman Izzat Ibrahim for northern Iraq, RCC member Ali Hassan al-Majid for southern Iraq and RCC member Mizban Khodr al-Hadi for the central Euphrates area. >
All these people are the closest to Saddam, rather two of them relations, it clearly indicates no room for any regular Army Commanders, they definitely will revolt once the troops start pouring in across Abdali. This is for me the first sign of internal weakness that the Tikritis has displayed. Surrender of the rag tag forces and their General Officers in South will be a formality, from North the Kurd revolution will destroy Izzat Ibrahim. Ali Hasan Majid or Izzat Ibrahim or Qusay are no Che Gueras or Ho Chi Minh or Mao’s they are most hated group of people amongst Iraqis. The whole command structure is not as regular structure of the Corps and this command I think has no respect from the regulars and will be probably the first victim. |
