I just got back from the local Austin Tx. march for Peace.

Molly Ivins was one of the featured speakers. She's good. Wavy Gravy was funny and a great cheerleader. The knockout speech was by a representative of the Catholic Church with an official message from the Pope. Basicly, this war is not justified and Bush and any supporters will be committing a mortal sin and go to hell if they don't wise up quick. He really didn't mince any words, and he was not speaking as a renegade or loose cannon. He openly questioned what kind of diety Bush was following, it was not the one celebrated in mass.

As usual, the speeches went overtime about 45 minutes so my feet were already a bit tired from standing. This time we marched clear across the river to the shores of the lake where the big stages are setup for the South-by-Southwest concerts. Access across the bridges was slow since they wanted to clear one bridge before the march proceeded to block the other. There were a lot of bands and drummers present so there was dancing on the bridge, but that just took further toll on my poor toes. My son and I decided not to stick around for the concert. By that time we were about 2 1/2 miles from where we had parked, so we walked back carrying our signs and flashing the peace 'V' to passing cars.
