I find the French bashing incredibly cynical & overdone. I am in favor of this war but I believe Chirac has reasonable arguments(population overwhelmingly opposed, Saddam not an immediate threat).
The French know they are going to lose this battle. If their main purpose is to protect their Iraqi interests, it would be far wiser to join the US than oppose us.

They are a crucial ally in the war on terror. They have broken up several AQ/terror rings. They have troops in Afghanistan now. Overall, they are a friend(far better friend than the Saudis).

I can't figure out why Bush went to the UN at all if he had already decided to go to war no matter what. If Iraq is a threat to the US, he had no business going to the UN in the first place. Don't go to a Democracy if you don't want to hear opposing views.
