I agree that rationality is sometimes in short supply. But if it has any hope of being resorted to it will be among those civilized countries which are supposedly most rational.

Reason ought to be the first option exercised by reasonable people. And reason can only be functional if there is a sincere respect, regard, and understanding of the self interest of all relevent parties.

Sometimes reason WILL dictate the need for aggressive force. However, the examples you give seem to indicate your opinion that such force is more likely to be justified by foolishness rather than clear thinking. The examples you give also seem to support the position that foolish actions have unpleasant consequences.

Let us then hope that the US is proceeding upon sound reason...
