They've got a little bit about the French in them.
What is in those books is mention of a small amount of French aid on the ground and more significant aid at sea during the Battle of Yorktown when the French fleet held off the British fleet that was bringing reinforcements that probably would have resulted in a British victory. And quite possibly the end of the American revolution.

But the French didn't do it out of love of either Americans or democracy. They did because they were already at war with Britain. In those days, those two countries liked nothing better than to brawl with each other.

The fact that France aided the Americans during our Revolution has been mentioned many times on different threads. What keeps getting left out is why they did it.
