By and large the issue has been the methods and not the goal. So I don't think your point is valid in this case

Well no, the "goal" of disarmament is a polite fiction of its own, for everybody knows that Saddam will disarm when he is dead and not before. The real question is, do we strive for another 12 years of flouted inspections (enforced naturally by thousands of American troops sitting at the borders making themselves look impotent and cowardly) or do we really do something about Saddam?
