A large fraction of people simply cannot live without a Big Daddy In The Sky. The reasons are many and varied, but that seems to be the bottom line.

Certainly, a great and prideful people cannot allow thousands to be murdered in the most vicious, reprehensible, and insulting manner in their homeland without responding to it with a long term plan of resolve. That, at least, is beyond dispute. Your faith in humanity is touching. Naive, but touching.
