Steeny, the difference between Bush I and Bush II is that Bush II is more like his Mom than his Pop ( who was a good guy, but let the UN mandate keep him from finishing the job). Bush II has a lot more balls. Plus, he is dealing with a far different dynamic than his Dad. 9/11 marked a huge turning point in world affairs, much like Pearl Harbor.

The President of the United States can no longer assume that the homeland is safe from attack by the outlaws of the world. To protect the homeland, the President has to round up the outlaws. If we don't do that, the threat will continue. And the folks in the homeland want to be safe from the threat, and will insist upon that.

George W. Bush is going to do all he can to reduce the threat, and is not going to let scumbags like Chirac get in the way. And that is precisely what he should do.

If the UN cannot be effective in stopping the threats, then it becomes irrelevant, just like the League of Nations did in another era. And for the same reason. RIP.
