sandintoes, Actually, the French lost a lot of their art treasures to several, high ranking, Nazi officers. Some of them were retrieved by American troops, and others were found in caves, probably by our troops also. Many, if not all, of the famous Lipizaner stallions were also stolen by a main Nazi guy, possibly Goering, and Patton saved them from danger. To put it short, and blunt, all of Europe had their asses saved by American GIs.
It is probably already on the threads, but the news tonight says that Bush, and his allies, have given Saddam just one day to disarm, or we go in with guns ablazing.
For the record, I hate war. It is a dirty, nasty, bloody, business that costs too much in blood, and lives, of brave young men, and women, but throughout history, people like the Kaiser, Hitler, Tojo, Mussolini, Stalin, and now Hussein, come to power with the intention of world dominance. When that happens, at least, one nation must step up and say; " THAT IS ENOUGH!!!!". The UK can't do it by itself, the French, Germans, and Russians, are yellow bellied cowards. The rest of the world is sitting back to see what happens. I believe the other nations will support the US, UK, Spain, and Portugal before it is over. The Japanese owe us a lot, but have no army, or navy, with which to help. I fell that we can count on Australia, and Canada, because of their affiliation with Britain. America has become that one nation that must take the lead, and remove weapons of mass destruction from the hands of tyrants, seek out terrorists of all kinds, and do our best to bring peace to the world. Unfortunately, war will always be with us until a spectacular event brings it to an end. Whatever, we have the military, equipment, weapons, and fortitude to do the job. We didn't get to be the strongest nation on Earth in just 200 years by sitting around twiddling our thumbs. |
