<<... Giving Powell a free hand (without being undercut by Rumsfeld & the uberhawks) could have kept all our Allies in formation...>>

I agree with you 100%...The NeoCON warHawks have never given Powell enough room to maneuver and compromise in order to come up with a unified approach against Saddam...The U.S. prestige and credibility abroad will suffer for years because of the arrogance of the Bush Administration...Tom Friedman has wisely mentioned that there are very high risks to attacking Iraq WITHOUT broad support from our allies and the U.N...We don't have to attack this week - we could have taken another 4-6 weeks to build the strong and robust coalition that will be essential to help win the peace AFTER a military intervention...We might have been able to get Saddam to actually accelerate his cooperation IF the United States had compromised and found a way to UNITE the Security Council...IMO, Bush has failed big time even before we fire the first missle in this war --> The columnist Richard Reeves describes the last few weeks as 'the diplomatic failure of the century'...I couldn't agree more...We deserve better leadership...War is a very serious matter and I clearly don't feel our President has 'gone the extra mile' to seek out a diplomatic breakthrough...Is this a war of last resort...?
