CheckFree Announces Section 508 Accessibility Certification for its Federal Reconciliation Solution

Monday March 17, 7:30 am ET

ATLANTA and WASHINGTON, March 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CheckFree Financial and Compliance Solutions (CFACS), a business unit of CheckFree Corporation (Nasdaq: CKFR - News), today announced that its CheckFree FUND Xpedite(TM) system has been certified and is compliant with U.S. Federal regulations regarding accessibility for disabled personnel in accordance with standards set forth by Section 508, which refers to a statutory section in the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Congress significantly strengthened section 508 in the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 with the primary purpose of providing access to and use of Federal executive agencies' electronic and information technology (EIT) by individuals with disabilities. The U.S. Department of Education Assistive Technology Center conducted an Accessibility Review, which concluded in a full Section 508 posting dated January 14, 2003. The announcement was made at the Ninth Annual Government CFO-CIO Program Managers Conference in Washington, D.C.

Currently, large U.S. Federal Agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Education, use the CheckFree FUND Xpedite system for disbursement and depository processing as well as SF224 reporting. The monthly SF224 Report, or Statement of Transactions, is required by any department or agency for which the Department of the Treasury disburses at any of its Treasury Regional Financial Centers. As a leading provider of reconciliation systems to the Federal Government marketplace, CheckFree has incorporated accessibility features in its Federal product and service offerings. This permits the blind and visually impaired to use the application, executing all functions from the keyboard, with all data and fields read to or enlarged for the user. Screen reader and screen enlargement programs interface with the Reconciliation program, permitting full accessibility. The test conformed to criterion of the U.S. Department of Education Requirements for Accessible Electronic and Information Technology (E&IT) Design.
