<<The Arrogant Empire (Parts 1 & 2)>>
The basic premise seems to be that Nations are in disagreement. But they always have been and always will be. The problem today is that, after a long period of relative peace, they are now aware of that unhappy situation
Germany may well want Poland back, England may want their colonies back, Iraq wants Kawait back because they once owned it for a few years. The Eskimos might want Alaska back, and the American Indians want their coalfields and land back, Mexico wants California back. Maybe the French would be happy if we gave them back Louisiana ( they sure got taken on that deal)
And the Israel/Palestine problem is a mess
The Muslims seem to want us all dead.
Trade is what has kept Nations together or brought them together and helped keep the peace as much as anything could. Trade and commerce.
We need the mid-east oil, they need our food, science, and engineering and smaller Nations need modern armaments to save themselves or contain violent neighbors (at least until peace finally prevails)
Stable trade and commerse will do more for peace today than any moral posturing of UN members or
national leaders.
France is trying to preserve their $40 bill of potential oil trade wih Iraq, and sacrificed their given word and integrity by reneging on Resolution 1441, based upon a moral argument that the actions of the US would be "worse" than than leaving Saddam in office.
