There now exists a preemptive Stop the War thread which for a time will function as a sister thread to this one. If the war begins, much of the information from this thread's header will be transferred to the new one and it will become the primary focus thread.

[VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Unlike the Don't Start The War thread, Stop the War it will be moderated.]

Warning to all: Don't Start the War has been pretty much a free-for-all and sometimes a pile-on type debate. At the urging of many who early on participated in Don't Start the War, I resisted making it a moderated forum, wanting everyone to have their sincere say. However, some 20,000 posts later I've discovered many folks who wanted to participate did not do so because of the unruly behavior of the 'bad apple bunch'.

Please do take notice unruly, gross or nagginglike behavior will not be tolerated on Stop the War. If you're gonna make an insult toward someone, at least do it a manner that the person being insulted actually appreciates the manner of delivery. Ideally, we want our difference of opinion understood each respect of the other, and there is absolutely no need to champion denigrating form of discourse.

Our challenge on the new thread will be to share a meaningful dialogue relative to the war's historical background, its current reality and projections as to what tomorrow may look like.

I hope those of you who participate find it meaningful.
