Well, the U.S. hasn't always acted as a force for liberty in the world. If you think that, you've been thoroughly brainwashed. We did support that despot Saddam Huessein for years when it was in our interest to do so, icluding when he gassed the Kurds. We've overthrown many democractically elected governments and installed and supported despotic oppressors: Iran, Chile, Guatemala, Brazil, etc.
