Jozef,
re:think the strategy is to take the avowed enemies of the US, rank them by the danger level / urgency, and deal with them in that order (if the threat they pose is real).
Which is really the logic of the "axis of evil", which I kind of didn't think about, until it hit me just now.
Saddam, Kim Jong-Il, the ayatollahs of Iran are bad guys, perhaps not the worst dictators in this world, but these 3 have capabilities, possibly intentions to threaten the US.
Perhaps the words "deal with them" needs to be explored, I understand people getting all excited about finally doing something with Iraq - but that in no way means Bush is heading to NK next, militarily.
Without the South's blessings we will not go after the North. I have not seen anything from the new government in the South that would indicate they believe action against the North is advised at this time. Diplomacy must be tried first, that may turn out to be what Clinton did, give money - but perhaps with some stronger inspections this time. Our motto in the South has always been "In god we trust, all others we verify". Right now it's posturing with the North, as they try to get us to blink while we're busy with Saddam.
Negotiations with the North have always been scary due to the language they use. It's like talking a tree hugger, with hand grenades, down from the old growth . <g>
As for the Middle East, I think we've pushed enough buttons and used up all our good will, it's time to put some effort into Israel and the PLO before we can go further. Now if we find caches of WMD or he uses them on us, we may get a few credits.
