Actually... the results of the media-run comprehensive recount process proved that neither side was very prescient in their legal strategies (because, in both cases, what they were arguing for would have actually benefited their opponent!:) Under the 'liberal' vote recognition standards pushed by the Gore folks (accept hanging chads, recount in only selected Florida counties, etc.) Bush would win. Under the most 'conservative' vote recognition standards pushed by the Bush folks (only clean punches, no hanging chads, recount in ALL Florida counties, no ballots accepted past the legal deadline, etc.) Gore would win. Pretty funny! Seems a pity that after all the uproar, the Fla Supreme Court couldn't have laid down a uniform standard for accepting votes in all counties... and then done a full State recount to settle the issue. It wouldn't have had to go to the federal courts, and we wouldn't have had a disputed result....
