Actually i disagree with you on this X ... while clearly it is the heinous crime of unilateralism for one nation to invade another, or to bully a few others into being its 'allies' in a hurry [somebody called the current set-up 'the coalition of the hard-of-hearing', quite apropos since the people of neither Spain nor the UK support things being done in this manner], it should not be out of the question for a true coalition of democracies to deal with situations exactly like that of Hussein .... the continual taking of indigenous land by the israelis, for instance, which is the prime cause of most unrest in the middle east - it would be good to think that we as a species could do something about that

But only through the means of a reasonably democratic international parliament of democracies ... anything short of that, and the perpetrator becomes no more than another Hussein himself ... it is the position of our prime ministre that Canada not be involved without UN sanction, and i support that fully, at the same time i realise that the UN is far from perfect ..... there is such a thing as just and righteous war imho, and when one comes i would want my country to pull its weight in the effort

There is also the fact, that with an effort legitimised by democratic action, war itself will be in many cases less necessary .... fifteen or twenty democracies together, armed to the teeth but still smiling and talking, could stand better chance of facing down the Husseins and Sharons without bloodshed .... not so the Bush IIs of course, that will take some evolutionary development or something
