Speaking from my military education and background, I see an unusual high threat to our safety right now.

Tactical surprise is a key component to any attack. Often surprise alone will ensure victory. Small units often use surprise to conquer much larger units. I know that from experience with ambushes and other surprise attack techniques.

While I thought GWB did a terrific job on TV last night, we lost tactical surprise when he announced a specific time-line of 48 hours. I could easily make the case that he gave the tactical advantage of surprise to our foes. The question is will they use it?

I can say this...with my training, I would be looking for ways to attack us right now in any way possible before the 48 hours is up. A substantial and demoralizing surprise attack on us would provide a huge morale boost to our foes and other would-be attackers. They would see our vulnerability once again and become emboldened to make even more attacks.

I also think it is a mistake to assume this war with Iraq will be a cakewalk just because the last one was. War is chaotic at best. We have the best war planners of all time, but each of them knows that when the shooting starts nothing goes according to their plans.

Sinced 9/11 all Americans know we are vulnerable. I believe that vulnerability is greatly increased for the next few days.
