I suspect that much of the "misguided" ill will towards the U.S. for using force will evaporate rather quickly once Hussein is removed and democractic guidelines for the rule of Iraq are implemented...I also suspect that this process will occur rather quickly...
I remain wholly perplexed as to why France would play the "veto card", as opposed to listing a set of conditions that it accepted as reasonable for the use of force,unless, of course, irony of all ironies, France knew full well from the onset of negotiations, that by pre-emptively attempting to pull the "force" card from the U.S. deck of diplomatic trump cards, it had carved out no other course of action for U.S. than for U.S. to use force...Hussein's "mockery" of the disarmament process resulted in Hussein being painted into a corner. So too, France's attempt at "disarming" the U.S. by pre-emptive vetoing the use of force by the U.S. has effectively ( exceedingly skillfully, but seemingly deceptively,imo)painted the U.S. into a corner...
The question begs: Why did France not list a set of conditions required for its approval of force rather than vetoing any resolution, regardless of conditions, that included the potential use of force...Ah, once again, irony of ironies!!! |
