<Next thought was, why does the the Government feel the need to manage the world when they can't take care of business at home. >

Maybe, as many have suggested, it is BECAUSE they can't take care of business at home.

To the extent that this war, as many (most?) in the past have been resource grabs, the Bushites might argue they have no alternative, since conservation is not a viable option (in their minds).

from the Baltimore Sun, a couple years ago:

When asked whether the president believed in asking Americans to adjust their lifestyles to consume less energy, Fleischer said: "That's a big no. The president believes that it's an American way of life, and that it should be goal of policy makers to protect the American way of life. The American way of life is a blessed one. And we have a bounty of resources in this country. What we need to do is make certain that we're able to get those resources in an efficient way."

'bounty of resources in this country'? Maybe Ari saw statehood in Iraq's future?
