BTW, I think it was a smart move not to make the nations in the UNSC who favored US action make a vote thereby exposing them to criticism at home. The non-aligned countries were going to abstain. It was dead. The "smartness" of the move was a failed vote would have eliminated any argument that the war was legal. BTW, I predict the fighting will last up to 30 days... I think it'll either be much shorter [most likely] or much longer. 30 days suggests to me that you have an urban war. That's very messy. My guess for D-Day is March 23 One would have to check the weather, the moon...that sort of thing. Frankly, if Saddam intends to fight, I don't see why he would wait. There will be large numbers of Iraqi troop defections/surrenders once the bombs start falling. The only way to get anything out of those troops is to get them to fire first.....they might fire, drop their guns and run like hell. But at least they get one shot off. jttmab
