Central banks don't have to fudge price of grain. Haven't looked lately but last time I checked wheat price was about the same as in 1960's. It's only through mechanization that farmers make money. That's why you don't see Mom & Pop farms anymore. Not sure how much grain etc. is grown in Poland and how efficient they are. Germany (West) is highly efficient. I know in Holland where some of my family had huge greenhouses of tomatoes, lettuce, etc., they now only grow flowers. Much more money. Is tulip bulb mania coming back? Stopped in there a couple of years ago on the way back from Switzerland, just amazing to see all that miles and miles of greenhouses. They grow some grain in Holland, not much, not enough land. They even farm between the runways at Schiphol airport. Tractors have to get clearance from control tower! As for building material for rebuilding - mostly brick houses, concrete/stone buildings. Copper for wiring, etc., unfortunately not much gold. In Germany, this may put more pressure on Mark, due to gov't relief funds? What is the best "thing" to hold in a deflationary period? |
