10:47AM HSBC says 'war-relief' rally will by short, shallow ($SPX) by Tomi Kilgore
HSBC says that while a short equity "war-relief" rally was inevitable given the declines over the past few months, a long lasting recovery looks nearly impossible due to the negative global fundamentals. "Even with the best-case assumptions on political risk, a graver concern is that the ongoing global slowdown will get much worse than the markets envision," the financial services firm said in a note to clients. "We believe any equity market rally will be short and shallow -- 10 to 15 percent at the most." The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) is currently up 1 point at 864, a gain of 7.9 percent from the Mar. 11 close.
