Yes, Patton was an excellent general. Very focused, relentless, single-minded. Somewhat unconcerned with casualties, unfortunately, but may have realized that to minimize losses, you have to move fast.
Unfortunately, at the end of the war, he didn't know when to stop. The reason he was not transferred to the Pacific was that he was a bit of a warmonger. He wanted to attack the Russians. Believe me, if we had attacked the Russians in 1945, they would have *kicked our ass*. Nothing against our fighting men, but they would have just been overwhelmed. Of course, we'd have also been without the French, who would have immediately surrendered (and eagerly become a Soviet Republic).
I fear Bush is too much like Patton, and won't know when to stop. |
