Unprofitable IPOs are NOT a good idea. Why? IPOs based upon poor business models are not good ideas. Just because a company is not profitable does not mean that its business model isn't sound, though. Krispy Kreme was an unprofitable IPO. They've got a pretty sound business model. There are unprofitable IPOs all the time. It happened before the bubble, and it still happens.
