NORRIS COMMUNICATIONS SIGNS CONTRACT WITH ADAMLAB
Daughterboard by Norris Increases Digitized Speech Capacity by Factor of Twelve
SAN DIEGO, California, July 30, 1997---Norris Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: NCII) today announced that it has signed a development contract with ADAMLAB to create a daughterboard for the SuperHawk Voice Output Communication Aid (VOCA).
The SuperHawk is designed for speech-impaired children and adults and features the ability to play digitized speech. The daughterboard from Norris Communications will increase the capacity of the device from 6 or 12 minutes to 72 or 144 minutes. The Norris MicroOS(tm) operating system will give the device more flexibility to edit on the fly. MicroOS also maximizes storage space by allowing flexible length blocks of digitized speech instead of fixed length blocks. The daughterboard will allow ADAMLAB the flexibility to configure the SuperHawk with adult and child male voices and adult and child female voices.
"The flash memory technology and MicroOS operating system developed by Norris allows ADAMLAB to dramatically increase the SuperHawk capacity and capabilities at a low cost," said John Smallwood, Project Engineer for ADAMLAB. "This will allow SuperHawk users greater communication ability while making the unit easier to use."
"This is another unique application of existing Norris technology," said Fred Falk, Norris President. "The contract will provide Norris with non-recurring engineering fees and an on-going revenue stream from product sales. The real benefactors are the children and adults who will use the product."
ADAMLAB is a subsidiary of Wayne County, Michigan, Regional Educational Service Agency chartered to provide Voice Output Communication Aids (VOCAs) at very competitive prices. ADAMLAB puts VOCA devices into the financial reach of students who are severely challenged.
