Are you living in denial? What do you call a century old democracy in Chile that we abrubtly ended on 9/11/1973 with a CIA back coup that installed the brutal dictator Pinochet? Yes, Allende was a duly elected leader, no matter what one thinks of his socialist politics. What about the budding democracy that the CIA ended in 1953 in Iran, when we ended democractic government and installed the brutual regime of the Shah of Iran. What about Greece, where we installed and supported a brutal military dictatorship? What about Brazil and Guatemala. Guatemala had a duly elected President? The democractically elected government of Guatemala made the mistake of interferring with the United Fruit Company's interests and the U.S./CIA overthrew them and installed another brutal dictator that set off a decades long war that cost 100,000s of lives. These are the facts. One can argue whether such actions were justified by the cold war or some other rational. But, the fact remains that we overthrew democratically elected governments many times over the past 50 years.

I suggest you read "Killing Hope" by William Blum or a similar text which outlines the actions of our secret government (aka CIA) over the past 50 years.
