You misunderstand. You assume that these people oppose war based on the merits of the issue.

It is all about hating GWB nothing more. Yet it is easy to personalize it and we should not. The situation would be the same if any conservative was the POTUS.

As evidence, one simply needs to compare the actions of former President Clinton. Clinton bombed the crap out of Serbia and where was this crowd? SI has a thread that was started regarding Kosovo, just before the bombing started. Yet no one here can point to one of his or her posts opposing Clinton’s actions.

What these people fear most is that this will strengthen GWB. Oh they give some standard answers but none of them stand up to any scrutiny:

Its all about oil

The most intellectually vapid argument. We could make a deal with Saddam under the table and lift the sanctions if that were the issue.

It will kill innocent civilians

Oh please. This is the most dishonest argument. If they were worried about this they would be in favor of the war. Saddam has and continues to torture and murder for the slightest infraction.

It will cause more terrorism

A free and prosperous Iraq, an Iraqi people free of Saddam and Saddam’s atrocities laid out for the world to see will be the legacy. Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, Yemen (yeah even these guys) Saudi Arabia and perhaps others are all providing support for this effort in one fashion or another. Even Shiite clerics support the action. Radicals will continue to try to attack us regardless of what we do in Iraq.

It is all about the fear of a strong conservative President. Nothing more.
