Be that as it may... and it's an arguable point, though different from what we were talking about... my views remain the same, regardless of whatever temporary occupant is in the WH.
(And since you brought it up... there were plenty of Clinton's policies which I opposed... such as his anti-freedom, anti-privacy push for the Big Brother 'clipper chip' to be installed in all computing devices. A terrible idea, if there ever was one.)
Sigh :(
Guess some things remain the same, regardless of whichever branch of the Republi-cats a particular 'Fearless Leader' comes from: once in office, there is a natural inclination to centralize more power in Washington, and to grasp for Authoritarianism as a short-term solution to the day's temporary problems. Perhaps that's why spending on government 'discessionary' programs is $100 B. higher over the first two years of Bush's presidency than even Clinton's numbers, and why subsidies are at an all time high. Some things never seem to change.
Some things that don't change:
I'm for lower tax rates, and reform of the corrupt loophole-ridden, special interest-perverted tax code in general.
I'm for free trade and elimination of economically-distorting subsidies and crony capitalism.
I'm for a smaller government that keeps respects people privacy.
Too bad - although the rhetoric is good - Bush's actions are not these....
(How you could possibly think that I'm not for Free Trade... when I have NEVER, EVER posted anything against it, is a mystery to me.... You must be thinking of someone else.) |
