Nothing strange about it. I guess you and I differ on what these words mean:

- I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. -

We elect someone every four years to take this oath and assume that responsibility. That is the only national poll that has real meaning. The rest are noise. During the Clinton years, we had someone who constantly heeded the noise and evidently interpreted those words quite differently from the way George Bush does. Perhaps you prefer the former but the former didn't take care of the problem and look what that led to. Hoping that the problem will go away and hoping that you can contain it are non-solutions. Cheaper in the short run, politically and economically, but doomed to failure. I prefer someone who, when faced with the national security responsibility and the information at his disposal, understands the problem and vows to eliminate it. Next poll is in Nov 2004.
