IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 18, 2003-- -- Extends Line of Patented LoadSHARE(TM) and Transient Correction Loop(TM) Controllers
Microsemi Corp. (Nasdaq:MSCC - News), a leading manufacturer of power management integrated circuits, today announced its second VRM power supply controller targeting applications for AMD processors, this version in support of AMD's new Hammer family. Designated the LX1677(TM), the new integrated circuit employs the patented LoadSHARE and Transient Correction Loop technology Microsemi uses in its recently released controller for AMD Mobile Athlon(TM) processors. Both controllers minimize costly capacitors and eliminate current sense resistors to reduce application costs.
AMD's first processor in the Hammer family, scheduled for April release, is the Opteron(TM) server chip designed for easy migration from 32-bit to high-performance 64-bit computing.
"The combination of LoadSHARE and Transient Correction Loop circuitry creates a unique cost-saving solution for supplying core power to Hammer processors, or for other power supplies in the 0.8 to 1.55V range having high transient loads," said Kelly Jones, vice president and general manager of Microsemi Integrated Products.
Design of the LX1677 features two PWM switching regulator stages configured as a single bi-phase output core supply of more than 25 amps. The synchronized Transient Correction Loop corrects for both positive and negative transients.
