good comment by Elliot Chodoff: French Protection by Elliot Chodoff We hate to admit it, but the French declaration that they will join the coalition if Saddam uses chemical weapons actually (paradoxically) protects Israel in the short run. Since Saddam's strategy is based on the hope that he can convince the French and the Germans that he is the victim of American and British lies and aggression, as long as he can hope for a reprieve, he is unlikely to use WMD's against US forces or Israel. Doing so would prove the American accusations and certainly seal his fate. Clearly, once he realizes that the game is lost, he will have no constraints about attempting to fire everything he has, sincce he will be in a "use it or lose it" situation. Hopefully, by then there won't be anything left for him to shoot. PS - Please don't tell the French that their policy is good for Israel; that would be too embarrassing for them to stand. chodoff.blogspot.com
